Mom and Me

Last night at the kids school they had a program called Mom and Me. This is the first time they have had something that the Mom could be involved with. They always have Dad's and Doughnuts or Dad's, Dudes and Daughters or something of the like. I was pretty excited that it was my turn, but Britton wasn't feeling good. I think he is coming down with a cold. So it just ended up being Shayna and I. The entertainment was African dance and drum. I was looking forward to seeing the African culture dances and the costumes so I was pretty disappointed when four Caucasians walked out on the floor. They were pretty good though and they got all of the kids in the audience involved and the most important thing is that Shayna had a ton of fun! Cookies were served as a refreshment so I took one home to Britton and told him he didn't really miss out. I don't think he would have liked it at all. And I sure enjoyed my one on one time with Shayna. She is such a sweet girl!

HaPpY BiRtHdAy TyLeR!!!

Tyler had to work on his Birthday so the kids and I thought it would be fun to try to make his day a little special for him so we threw him a little surprise party. We got his gifts wrapped and decorated the house. I even had dinner all planned out which is something I NEVER do.


When he came threw the door we yelled SURPRISE and I was able to capture the surprise on his face.


He even got special hugs from the kids.


After we opened gifts and ate dinner we headed over to scoreboard sports to see Real Salt Lakes MLS cup. Britton and Tyler were so excited about that.



Shayna wouldn't go anywhere near Leo. She still has problems with people in costume.

I think Tyler had a pretty good day. I think he got some great gifts. The kids and I gave him some cologne, his parents gave him a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble (he used some of his money to surprise me with a book....isn't he the best) Shane gave him a gift certificate to famous footwear and my Parents bought him some cowboy boots that he has been wanting, then on Saturday after Britton's soccer game they took us to Maddox for a Birthday lunch. It was delicious and we had a great time.

Social Study Olympics

Britton's class did social study Olympics. There were 30 questions that were asked and then they had to name the 13 original Colonies (Man, did I learn a lot). If they answered all 30 questions correctly and named all of the 13 Colonies they got a gold medal. 15 - 29 correct they got a silver medal and anything less then 13 was a bronze medal. Guess what Britton got......

GOLD!!

Valentines and Anniversary!

FRIDAY:
Shayna wanted to have a special Valentine hairdo for her Kindergarten class Valentine party. We decided hearts would be the way to go. I wanted to make her some cute hair bows to go with it so I crocheted these. I think they turned out OK, not too bad for my first time. Her hair was a hit, everyone loved it, especially the girls in her ballet class.


I help out in Shay's class every Friday. I'm glad that their Valentine party was on a day I could be there. I had a lot of fun and the kids were so cute giving and getting their Valentines. Shay thought we should get a picture together before we went.

Friday night my parents watched the kids for us so that Tyler and I could celebrate our Anniversary. I can't believe it has been nine years. We went to Olive Garden for dinner (we were craving the salad) then we went to the movie Avatar 3D at the Imax theater. I LOVED the movie but unfortunately I got motion sick and had to close my eyes a few times, my stomach was not having fun. I think I am the only one that has had this feeling. I really want to see it again and sit a little farther back....maybe that will help. Happy Anniversary Ty, thank you for the best nine years of my life. You really are the best!

SUNDAY:
We decorated our Valentine cookies. We made some fun colors and the kids got creative. They turned out really cute. Grandma and Grandpa Carver stopped by to see us and we gave them some of our sugar cookies and they gave us some of theirs.



Grandma and Grandpa Turner and Uncle Shane also stopped by to give the kids some Valentines. I have to include this funny story of Shane because those of you who know him will appreciate it. My Parents were planning on putting Valentines on the door step and then knocking on the door and hiding. They told Shane he could be the one to knock on the door and then run and hide. Well, in all of his excitement as soon as they pulled into the drive way Shane bolted out of the truck and ran and knocked on the door and took off running around the corner of the house to hide. We opened the door to my parents yelling "no, not yet Shane you forgot the Valentines". The truck was still running. They didn't even have time to get it turned off. Britton and Shayna were so confused as to what was happening while the adults just stood there laughing. Britton said "Thanks for the Valentines Papa but that was really weird".

It is our tradition to have a candle light dinner with our kids on Valentines day. Britton and Shayna really look forward to this because they get to pick what we have for dinner and they love sitting at the table with a candle.

We had a lot of fun spending the day as a family. I can't wait for next year. It will be our 10th anniversary and I just know Tyler is going to go all out for that one ;)

The Happenings

It's been a while since my last post. We have had a lot going on but nothing so major that I felt I needed to write it down. Then I got to thinking that no matter how mundane and boring our life might be, some day I am going to want to be able to go back and read about all of the little things so here it is, this is what we have done the last two weeks or so.

Tyler's little brother Jordan was back in town for a few day's doing some more soccer scouting. He was able to spend quite a bit of time with us which is always fun. And of course my kids have a blast with him. It's always sad to have him leave.

The end of the school semester came and went. Both kids got an excellent review. They both received all 3's (3 being the highest) except Shay did get a 2 in listening and following instructions. She is a very social girl. She takes after her Dad. I can't be upset with that!

We are still going to soccer games every Saturday morning. Britton has become the highest scorer on the team. He gets anywhere between three and five goals a game. He is making a ton of money off of his Grandpa Turner. They have a deal where the first goal is 5 bucks and every goal after that is a dollar. I don't think that deal would have been made had Grandpa known how well he was going to do.

We usually try to do a movie night with the kids once a week. This week we decided to let the kids watch a scary movie. Tyler and I love scary movies so of course we have to break the kids in. We decided Goonies would be a good start. Apparently we both forgot how much swearing is in the movie, it was nothing my kids haven't heard before but I was kind of shocked anyway. I told the kids to just ignore it like they always do. Some parts of the movie kind of scared them but at the end they saw how un-scary it really is and they loved it. I couldn't believe they sat through the whole movie and never even moved. I love having movie nights with the kids. I am going to make sure we always do it....until they refuse to spend weekend nights with their parents that is.

SuPeR bOwL pArTy! My parents came over to watch the super bowl with us. They came over a couple of hours early so we could do Wii-lympics as we like to call it. We have competitions to see who is the best archer, bowler, ice skater and curler. Curling is my Dad's favorite, he and my Mom won Tyler and I so now we have to have a rematch.....I think they cheated.

My Grandma is always crocheting a blanket for someone. She does beautiful work and I love all the blankets that she has given to me and my kids over the years. The last time she was in town she taught my Mom how to crochet a blanket and when I saw that my Mom was successful I thought it might be fun for me to give it a try. So after some instruction from my Mom here is what I ended up with.

There are a ton of mistakes in it but I don't think its to bad for my first try and I loved that it kept me busy while sitting at Shayna's ballet lessons. I even made some new friends. While sitting at ballet working on my blanket some women started talking to me about it and we started our own little knitting/crocheting club....I must be getting old. I guess I better decide what I want to do next so I won't be left out sitting at ballet next Friday.

And last but not least my 9 year anniversary is coming up. Time sure fly's when your having fun!

Where does she get it?

I'm starting to wonder if maybe I talk weird. Do I not pronunciate when I speak? Am I so lazy in my speech that I sound all slurry? I don't get where she gets it, but it sure makes me laugh!

Shayna once again had a mispronunciation. Last night we were in the bathroom and I was helping her brush her teeth. She asked me if she could use some of Daddy's mouth wash. I told her yes so she went to the cupboard to get it out. She so desperately wanted to get it open herself. After grunting and moaning and turning red in the face from trying to twist so hard. She looked at me with an exasperated face and said,

"WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO BE CHILD PROOTH? JUST ONCE CAN'T THEY MAKE SOMETHING ADULT PROOTH".

I just laughed and asked her if she needed help.

Another soccer post!

Britton had another indoor soccer game on Saturday. I didn't take any pictures or record any of the game. I wasn't planning on doing another post about this subject but Britton played so well I just couldn't help myself. Britton was a scoring machine, he made 5 goals! One of his goals was so cool to watch, he took the ball almost the whole length of the field and was weaving in and out of the players on the other team and kicked it right in. Awesome! And his team WON!! Tyler and I don't sit together at the games, he is always down with Jonny helping with the team, we just look at each other and smile and shake our heads. This kid is unbelievable and it came out of nowhere. HUGE difference just from summer outdoor to now. The older Britton gets the more fun I am having watching him. I can't believe how is skills are developing. The kid plays soccer non stop. He is out with his buddy's during recess playing soccer in the snow, he comes home everyday soaked and muddy (laundry has been a pain and we have lost some shirts to mud stains) and he plays in the basement everyday (his kick is getting harder so I might have to put a stop to that pretty soon....my poor walls) and he even plays soccer on the Wii. I can't wait until next weeks game. I am really loving this!

I know I brag a lot but I can't help it. I am just so proud!
