I was in desperate need of a vacation so I took some time off from work and went to Moab with my Mom, my kids and my Brother for 10 days. I even lost track of time there was a few day's there that I didn't even know what day it was. It was HEAVENLY!!! It was so nice to be able to spend that much time with my Grandma but it was HOT! Tyler and my Dad met us down there on the fourth of July and stayed that weekend. Here are some of the highlights of the trip in no particular order, I don't remember what we did on what day.
One of the first things we did was visit my cousin Jared and his family. They just had a new baby and she is so cute!
While we were there Jared set up their huge water slide for the kids to play. My kids loved this slide and Shay cried when it was time to leave and every day that we were in Moab Shayna begged to go back.
My Grandma also bought a pool for the kids to play in so they got to play in the water everyday which was great because it was so hot. We would go do whatever we wanted to do for the day then come back and swim to cool off.
We even got to meet up with Rachel and her cute kids while we were there. One night she made us a yummy dinner and then we took the kids to the movie Wall-E. I have no idea why I don't have pictures, I had my camera with me.
There is a Dinosaur site out towards the Moab airport. It's really cool, you walk along a trail and stop at these signs that tell you all about the dinosaur bones that you are seeing. The bones are actually still there. Britton absolutely loved this, it made him even more excited to become an archaeologist or a paleontologist.
This is a new bike bridge that was built over the Colorado River, it's meant for bikes but we wanted to walk across it. It's actually a really nice walk.....and pretty!
I love this picture. Shayna held Shane's hand the whole time. He would tease her and say he was going to jump in the water and go for a swim and then he would walk closer to the side, so she held his hand so he wouldn't do it.
Shayna loves her Uncle Shane so much and he loves her back. They have a special bond between them it is so sweet, I just love it!
The kids wanted to play at the sand dunes but it was so hot and there was absolutely no shade on the dunes so we decided to take them to Sand Dune Arch, it was perfect. It's a pretty short hike and there are areas that are shaded. Although to get to the arch you have to walk through a lot of sand that is not shaded and I was wearing flip flops and it BURNED. I finally just took off my flip flops and ran for it.
Britton found this "very comfy" spot to lay in the shade. It was nice and cool down in the rock.
Here we are at the Hole N' The Rock! I can't believe someone made a home out of the mountain. I was glad I went on this tour again, I really wanted the kids to see it and I didn't realize how much I had forgotten about. It's very cool. I would live there if I could.
Up those stairs and under that rock is where the couple that lived there is buried.
The next few pictures are taken on the grounds by the whole in the rock home.
Can you see the rabbit?
They have ostriches there, not sure why, but the kids wanted to feed them. Britton thought it was hilarious that one of them was named Douglas (my Dad's name and Britton's middle name) When you get the food you are supposed to put it through the slot to the right of the picture but every time we tried an ostrich would be there pecking at us trying to get the food. There are signs posted everywhere saying "warning, will bite" so we ended up just throwing the food at them.
The following pictures are from the fourth of July, and Tyler and my Dad are finally in town. There was a fourth of July fair at the City park. My Grandma is a member of a singing group called Valley Voices and they performed at the fair. It started off with a VERY SMALL parade. It lasted about 8 minutes.
There were all kinds of activities for the kids to do like:
Fishing,
and jumping in a blow up castle,
and eating cotton candy.
Of course she's on a horse, where else would she be?
There was a live Country band playing all the way from Price, Utah. Shay loved the music and danced to it for a very long time, she gathered quite the crowed watching her. She makes me laugh.
There is my Grandma singing with the Valley Voices, they did a great job. It was really neat to see my Grandma perform. The lady that is leading is Kip's Mom.
Here is the crazy clan after the performance. Shane, Aunt Vonda(she is my Grandma's Aunt) Uncle Bill(Grandma's Brother) Grandma and Inalyn(Uncle Bill's wife).
The fire work show didn't start until 10:00 so we decided rather then dealing with the crowed with tired kids we just watched the fire works from the front porch of the guest house. I'm glad we did it this way. When the kids got tired we just walked a few steps to the front door of Grandma's house and put them to bed. PERFECT!!
Saturday we woke up and took the kids to the park to play. We got a pizza and had a picnic then took some pictures. I wish I was a professional photographer, I think this would be a really neat spot for some nice pictures.
Pretty Girl.
Uncle Shane making us laugh. He is like Shayna he likes to make up his own poses!
Like this one!
Britton wouldn't pose by this rock until I let him climb it!
Cute kids!
I wish I had her recorded at this point, I wanted her to smile and she said "but it will be more dramatic this way" where does she get it?
We were feeding the ducks at the park our pizza crust. When all of a sudden we hear crashing in the water, Britton was feeding his crust to some HUGE carp fish. They were fighting for the food, you could actually here them sucking in the food. Gross!!!
Later that evening we went for a ride up the La Sal Mountains where it was a little cooler. This next picture is Kips (a friend of ours that lives in Moab) Mom and Dad's cabin, it is so cute, I would love to have something like that in the mountains. I guess my Mom and Dad's condo will do, I love it there to.
Kip showing off his trophy kill.
We stopped at Buck Eye lake for a picnic dinner, I didn't get many pictures but you get the idea.
This little place used to actually be a home in the 1800's. The kids thought it was so cool and wondered why we didn't live in something like that.
I let Shay paint her toes all by herself so I had to get a picture.
She did good don't ya think!
Well there it is, my lovely vacation that I really, really enjoyed. I can't wait to go back!
I LOVE MOAB!!!!
