Happy Birthday Mom!

I can't believe my Mom is 60. She certainly doesn't act it or look it. For Mom's Birthday I decided I would surprise her with a night away to relax. I made reservations at Sherwood Hills resort and spa.....thanks Dad for paying, your the BEST!! My Mom had no idea what was going on. A week ago when they were out of town I left an invitation and a plant in her kitchen for her to see when she got home. The invitation said "Your invited to your own party! You will be going away for a luxurious one night stay, your ride will pick you up Saturday at 2:00.....no questions allowed!!" She had no idea who she was going with or where she was going. She thought for sure she had it all figured out though. She just knew she was going to Wendover with Dad, Dennis and Charlene. She started to second guess that when Dad wasn't getting ready to go anywhere. Haha! We fooled her. Tyler the kids and I showed up to her house a little early and pretended we were waiting to see who was going to pick her up. After visiting for about 15 minutes I said "well, your rides here are you ready to go?" She was pretty shocked and excited. I didn't tell her where we were going or what we were doing until we pulled in.

We arrived about 45 minutes before our Manicures and Pedicures were to begin so we decided to walk the grounds. As we were walking out of the doors their was a sign that said "DANGER, there have been moose sightings, please be aware!" We were excited to see the Moose so the sign didn't stop us. But....the only scary thing we saw was this....

And this. A little shack on your way to the outdoor theater.

And this. We are not sure what this is for but it made me feel like I was in the middle of a scary movie. I told my Mom that any minute now we would be murdered.

My Mom made me pose in front of a light post. Not sure why.

The swimming pool was actually really nice. Minus the weird paining on the wall. I wish we had time to enjoy it. You can turn on a waterfall that falls into the hot tub. It was pretty cool.

The view from our room. It was very pretty.

By the time we got done with all of our picture taking it was time to head down to the spa. This is where it all gets a little weird.
We headed down the stairs and down a very long dark hallway and turned the corner to the spa. When we got there the doors were locked. There was a little phone on the wall so I called the front desk and they told me they didn't have me booked. WHAT? He could tell I wasn't very pleased so he told me to go back to my room and wait for him to call back. He was going to try to get a hold of the spa tech. We headed back to our room and waited, and waited and waited some more. Twenty minutes later we decided to go to the front desk and see what was going on. We had to wait in line for a bit and when we got up there he's like oh, ok, hold on, I will call her. K, you were supposed to do that twenty minutes ago. Anyway he gets a hold of the lady and she said she lost her appointment book and forgot all about us. She lives about 15 minutes away so to wait in our room and she will call us when she gets there. We went back to our room and visited for about another thirty minutes and still hadn't heard anything so we head back down to the front desk. I said have you happened to hear anything from her and he was like what? she hasn't called you? She's been here for a while. So he calls her again and she says just send us down. So we head back down to the spa and walk through the doors and have no idea where to go. There is nobody there to help us out so we start wondering around and found her in the pedicure room cleaning. So she shows us to the waiting room where we have to wait another ten minutes for her to clean and get ready. An hour and a half after our appointment was supposed to start we are finally getting our manicures and pedicures but on the short notice she is the only one there so she has to do both of our 60 minute pedicures and 30 minute manicures. We had to wait for each other to get done. which was ok but we were there WAY longer then we expected and we were STARVING. We finally got out of there at 8:40 and had to hurry to the restaurant to get food before they closed at 9:00. But, she didn't make us pay for one of the manicures so that was good.

At dinner we had the craziest waitress. She was very nice but a little odd. I noticed that there was something black in my glass so I called her over (after her 20 minute conversation with some other people on her five month old daughter) to get me a new one. She picked up my glass and started inspecting it. Then she stuck her thumb into my glass and smeared it out. As she proceeded to rub it through her fingers she says, hmm, yeah that is gross. I think it was a flying ant. I will get you a new glass. When she came back she asked us if we would like some wine. After we both told her no thank you she would not give up, just kept saying are you sure. We have a really delicious blackberry wine. I think you lady's would really enjoy it. Again, No thank you. Then she says well then, you at least have to smell it. After hitting my Mom in the nose with it, we still said no. But the food was so good, it made it all worth it. And we didn't have to pay for our appetizer because she forgot to put it on our ticket.....awesome!

We finally made it back to our room a little after ten. That is when I noticed that my nails needed to be re-filed. They were pretty crooked and I had fingerprints in my toenail polish. oh well. At least it was relaxing. I decided to take my shower so I wouldn't have to worry about it before breakfast the next morning. After a few minutes of trying to turn on the shower I had to call my Mom in to see if she could figure it out. It took a few more minutes before we noticed the itty bitty sign on the corner of the mirror how to turn it on. I took a nice long hot shower and felt so refreshed after that my Mom decided to shower. She was in for about 2 minutes when the fire alarm started to go off. At first I thought it was just an awful noise coming from really old pipes. Then I heard people running down the hall and a little kid saying "Mom I'm scared". I looked out the peep hole and saw people running so I poked my head into the bathroom and said um, Mom. I think the fire alarm is going off. At first she didn't believe me. I had to really convince her to get out of the shower. I called down to the front desk to see if it was in fact the fire alarm and indeed it was. We were told to head down to the lobby. My Mom absolutely refused to go down in her towel so as she was getting dressed I changed out of my jammies and back in to my clothes and headed down to the lobby. Good thing it was a false alarm. We were a little slow getting out of our room. When we were allowed to return to our room we changed back into our jammies and layed down on our beds. I looked at my Mom and said "do you feel like your in the twilight zone". It was seriously a bizarre day.
Breakfast the next morning didn't exactly go smoothly either. Again, really weird wait staff. But at least the food was good.

So sorry Mom! It wasn't exactly perfect and things did not go smoothly at all. But if it had we wouldn't have had so much fun. Thanks for being such a trooper Mom. Happy Birthday, I love you!
